So… here we have our firstly monthly progress check —
UN Category: Left-Leaning College State
Civil Rights: Excellent
Economy: Strong
Political Freedoms: Some
Regional Influence: Minnow
Additional Comments: Not too bad for our first month in existence. To start the month of June, we have managed to shake off the ‘capitalist’ tag from the UN which was pleasing — Funny how we ended up being classified as a capitalist state when most of our decision-making tended to lean to the left… but hey… that’s the beauty of nationstates.
The types of issues we had to deal with ranged from serious issues concerning refugees, euthanasia (which is legal), disease (we had an outbreak of some unpronounceable virus!) and general concerns voiced by the public. On the other hand the government also took into consideration some people’s wishes to marry their house pets — and yes! that has been legalised!

UN officials visited a range of government departments and recorded how frequently bribes were required to complete simple administrative requests.
So… we finally made a top-ten list in somethingÂ

Nations ranked high on this list spend disproportionately large amounts of money on national defense, and are most secure against foreign aggression.
We ranked at 13th out of 54 other nations in the region.

Incidentally, our status has changed from ‘father knows best’ state to ‘compulsory consumerist state’. I guess that’s what we get for starting a national baseball league.

So, NUTS is now renowned for compulsory military service.
Wow. I never appreciated just how many countries have compulsory military conscription. I just finished reading an interesting wiki article on the subject. Eritrea has mandatory service for women as well as men, no questions asked.

I’m pleased to annouce that NUTS is now property of Liberty Alliance, an extremely well organized nationstates.net region with high regional power. The region comprises of roughly 50 nations. Let’s hope NUTS and the Liberty Alliance can forge a mutually beneficial relationship. The nations in the region seem wonderful, and the people seem friendly — easy going yet dedicated to the cause of making Liberty Alliance a success.
NUTS, being a new country, has much to learn from older, economically superior and more diplomatically adept nations in the region.
NB : I honestly have no idea how they manage to organize themselves so well. Here’s hoping we can be of some use to them in the not too distant future!
